When I first certified as a group fitness instructor in 2000 I felt like this is the perfect job to keep me healthy and in shape. In my 20s, little did I know that the healthy appearance on the outside doesn’t necessarily mean you are healthy on the inside.

Eleven years later I became really sick. I was teaching several high intensity fitness classes, waking up early to personal train clients, not getting enough sleep, and occasionally eating high inflammatory foods. I was in the fitness industry and was eating pretty “healthy” 80 percent of the time getting my fruits, veggies and protein in. I practiced the calories in calories out method of keeping in shape.

After multiple years and several blood draws, doctors could only tell me is that I had high inflammation in my body. With my mother’s history of her autoimmune disorders I knew I was on the spectrum. I started paying attention to the foods I ate and how they made me feel. I decided to go back to school and study nutrition and became a certified (Functional) Nutritional Therapist Practitioner.

As a FNTP I am able to evaluate the nutritional deficiencies and imbalances in our bodies and organ systems. I also look at environmental issues, stressors and lifestyle. I now consider the quality of calories and view food as medicine. There is not a one fits all diet or perfect macro percentages to follow. We are individuals, therefore our diets will be different. Sometimes we can be eating “healthy foods” that doesn’t agree with us and is actually maybe harming or contributing to imbalances in the gut. We can also be eating “healthy food” and not digesting those nutrients properly.

With Nutritional Therapy along with a DNA hair scans I can help you (and me) better understand what is going on with your body. Learn what vitamins, minerals, your body needs along with changes in lifestyle to help you feel well so you can live life to the fullness. I would love to chat with you and offer a complementary 15 minute consultation to see if my services fit your health needs.

If you are a women wanting to reclaim your health with fitness and nutrition, I am inviting you to come join my private Instagram club called “Club Nourish.” Here I talk about goal setting, workouts you can do, yoga, meditation, and healthy life style recommendations. My workouts will be beginner to intermediate levels. I know change can be hard. Little by little we can form new healthy habits. I am definitely not perfect but strive to keep trying and living.
